Printable Family Home Evening Charts are SO EASY
If you want to use one (or all) of our printable FHE charts but aren't sure how they work, then let me tell you how easy they are!
First of all, you get your download and print the pages on cardstock (which is just thick paper). You should have two pages of background image and then a page or two with the pieces. If you have a big family, make sure to print enough pieces for everyone.
Next, just cut everything out and cut around the background image.
Now you have to hook your two background pieces together. I suggest lining them up perfectly and taping them all along the backside.
Then write the names of your family members on the backsides of the pieces. Each person gets a piece of their own.
And then you need to laminate everything or cover it with clear contact paper. I always use contact paper because, depending on where you go, it's a lot cheaper than lamination. And besides, I like to plop down in front of Netflix if I have a lot of cutting and stuff to do and lamination would require that I leave my house in the middle of everything.
Next you need to cut out your pieces again - because that is the bane of covering them. (But it's worth it, because the pieces will last SO MUCH LONGER.)
So now comes the time to use your chart (which is also super easy to do). Hang the background image somewhere your whole family will see it. You can stick the pieces to the background using a few things. You can get some of the sticky backed velcro and attach it to each piece and the background image so that the pieces can just peel on and off. You can hang the chart on the fridge and put strong magnets on the backs of your pieces. Or you can be lazy and do what we do - we just get a few pieces of stick tack and just use that to stick the pieces on.
Each week you need to rotate the pieces so that everyone in your family has a turn doing something for FHE. If your family is large you won't all be able to participate each week so make sure to rotate people in.
And there you have it - an easy printable FHE chart! It will help everyone get organized and excited about having Family Home Evening each week.

Free LDS Printables
I've said this numerous times in multiple places, but I just want to say it again:
It's really important to hang uplifting pictures and messages on our walls.
You see your walls a lot. You walk past them every day. You might as well make them useful. When you surround yourself with beautiful pictures and uplifting messages it has an impact on your attitude and mood. Like say, your 3 year old colors a mural in crayon in the living room, you're going to be pretty cranky about it. But if, instead, you have an uplifting quote framed and displayed in your living room think about how much happier you'll be!
I suggest getting an 8x10 frame that you really like and finding a spot on your wall that you'll see every day. Then print out your favorite quotes, sayings, artwork, printables, whatever, and display it in the frame. Then when you feel like you've seen it enough, switch it for your new favorite! It's lots of fun to have something in your decor that you can change whenever you feel like it. Plus, I'm serious about being in a better mood when you surround yourself with goodness.
We have a bunch of free 8x10" printables, some made by us and some by the awesome Caroline at Mormon Mommy Blogs. We also have a bunch of printables that you can buy for super cheap that will come with an 8x10" and 5x7" file so you have an option in printing.
Come by and get some great LDS printables - you'll be happy you did.

Get Ready for Christmas: File Folder Games
My kids love Christmas file folder games. My original thought was to put them in our church bag during the holiday season, but my kids insisted they be in there every week regardless of the time of year!
Printable file folder games are great because they keep little fingers busy and quiet, plus they teach great concepts whether they be gospel related or include early learning skills. Plus, they're super easy to put together. Just print the pages on thick paper, cut the pieces out, and laminate everything so it lasts a long time. I like to use clear contact paper instead of lamination, but it's totally up to you. Then we just use sticky tack to attach the pieces to the folder during play - it's quiet and reusable, or in other words, perfect.
Get our Christmas file folder games for only a dollar when you buy at least three! Just put three (or more) file folder games in your cart and enter the code: filefolderDEAL at checkout.
Here's to hoping your family enjoys the file folder games all through this Christmas season!

Get Ready for Christmas: Printable Advent Calendars
When I was a kid my favorite December activity was adding to our Christmas advent wreath. I loved counting down the days to Christmas and picking my favorite things to put on the wreath each day.
Creating a Christmas advent doesn't have to be complicated or hard. I know there are a lot of awesome ideas out there that include treats, toys, or activities for each day. And I'm thinking that those are fun. But I'm also thinking that they are LOTS of work.
Using one of our printable Christmas Advents makes the work minimal and you can use it year after year without any extra effort! Just laminate the pieces (or cover them in clear contact paper), use sticky tack to attach them each day, and your family will have fun with it every year.
Today you can get 30% off any of our advent calendars, so you can have it all ready for December 1st! Just enter the code: adventFUN at checkout to get the discount.
And if you need a little help knowing just how to print and finish up your advent calendar, you can check out the tutorial we did a couple years ago.

Tongue of Fire book review and GIVEAWAY!
David McKnight gave us a copy of his book "Tongue of Fire" to review and another copy to give away to you guys! YAY! The book showed up at a time when I was moving so I had my mom (Melanie) read it. Here's here review:
I was excited to get David McKnight’s new book “Tongue of Fire” in the mail! He was nice enough to provide me with a copy so I could read it and let you know my thoughts. First of all I have to tell you that I am glad to live in “Happy Valley” after reading his book. I grew up outside of Utah and have always longed to move back outside of the Mormon culture. Now I am not so sure.
David’s book is about a young family that is driven from town after town because of their Mormon beliefs and standing up for them. This newest move is suppose to be different. John, the main character has promised his wife and family that he will not be outspoken in this new town and that they can lay low and keep their faith unknown. Instead they will focus on service to others. Well it is short lived for poor David. Almost as soon as he hits town, he is asked to preach in the new mega church.
The character of John is amazing to me. He knows how hard it will be for his family if he found to be a Mormon, but following the promptings of the spirit, he goes against his family’s wishes and preaches at this large church for several weeks. What is also awesome in this story is that the congregation feels the spirit of John’s sermons and each week more and more people are showing up. The spirit of Christ and his teachings is something that the people of this town are yearning to hear.
I really like that this book doesn’t focus on just our Mormon faith, but it is about Christian beliefs. John helps a struggling young preacher learn how to deliver a meaningful sermon. He also helps widows in the town when he is at his breaking point. I think there is something that all of us can learn about what it means to be a true follower of Christ.
Your heart will break for this family who is struggling to stay together as their lives fall apart. You will be inspired by John and how he keeps following the promptings of the spirit, even in his lowest point. Also in this book you will see how the adversary works against the teachings of Christ. How hearts can be hardened and anger can change people. But also how the spirit can come and change a hardened heart, and forgiveness and love can follow.
I hope you enjoy reading this book as much as I did. I found so many it be a message of faith, service, forgiveness, and love in times of real trial. Hopefully we all can find the strength to do what is right as John does in this book.
If you'd like to win a free copy of "Tongue of Fire" all you have to do is:
1- Like the "Tongue of Fire" facebook page and leave a comment letting me know you did.
2- Recommend the book "Tongue of Fire" to your friends or family and leave a separate comment letting me know you did that too.
3- Follow our blog, or like our Green Jello with Carrots facebook page and leave a separate comment about it.
We'll randomly choose a winner on MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12th at noon. Good luck!

FHE Idea; Studying the Scriptures
Sometimes my kids complain when we sit down to read the scriptures. They're still fairly young so we cut them a little slack, but I want to have a Family Home Evening lesson about why it's important to study the scriptures as a family.
You can find the FHE lesson plan on the yourLDSradio blog.
And if you want a game to go with your lesson, try our Book of Mormon Printable Card Game. It'll add a little fun to your night because the cards are good for lots of games. You can play concentration, go fish, old maid, or anything else you can think of!
