We can't have a week of love without talking about weddings, right? Marriage is all about love...in the beginning. After awhile it's more about who cleaned out the fridge last or have we paid the water bill yet? But in the beginning - and for brief happy moments throughout time - it's ALL ABOUT LOVE.

These wedding paper dolls come with a man, a woman, 5 modest wedding dresses, 5 tuxedos, and 10 accessory items.

I printed these and cut out all the pieces so I could take pictures to show everyone. But the pictures look like barf, and I'll tell you why: I wanted to print these on cardstock, cover the fronts with clear contact paper, adhere the backs to a magnetic sheet, and then cut them out. But I couldn't find magnetic sheets at the store, so I had to get printable magnetic paper. So I printed a test image on cardstock, which looked marvelous, then printed the pages onto the magnetic paper. AND THAT STUFF IS RUBBISH. Even though I used the same settings on my printer, they came out all sorts of wrong colors and all the shadows (that I spent hours and hours drawing) weren't even visible, AND, they're hardly magnetic at all. So don't use it - go to a different store and get the magnetic sheets, the kind that have sticky stuff on one side so the printed cardstock will adhere to it nicely. Because if you repeat what I did, they'll just end up looking like this (bleh):

Week of love: the Love of Learning

Learning is great as an adult, but WAY more fun when you're a kid. (Which is why I like making stuff for my kids to learn from - it brings back a little of the excitement I used to have at their age.)

These craft stick puzzles are my newest favorite thing to do with my preschoolers, and they're easy to make!

Just print the puzzles on thick paper and cut around the outline on each. Then cut a piece of clear contact paper to go on the fronts.

Once you have the contact paper stuck to the fronts of the puzzles, slice the pieces on a paper cutter (using the lines on the puzzles as a guide - - speaking of which, if you look closely enough you'll see that I didn't actually cut on the lines. That is because I was a total doofus when I printed these and had measured wrong for the craft sticks - but DON'T WORRY, I fixed them before uploading the zip files on our site, so they are totally the right size now.)

Glue the strips to large craft sticks. I used a sponge tip on some Scotch clear glue, and it worked beautifully.

Once it's all dry, it's time to play! Here are just a few of the puzzles I have put together for my kids using the new files:

Yeah, I really like craft stick puzzles. And my destructo kids can't ruin the pieces like the paper puzzles I've printed for them before. YAY.

"Texting Through Time: a Trek with Brigham Young" is a fun book about a brother and sister who get sent back in time with their dad's experimental time phone. As they attempt to return to the present they meet Brigham Young at different points of his life and get to see him grow from an 11 year old boy to the powerful "Lion of the Lord". I learned some things about Brigham Young that I hadn't known (or remembered) before, and the story presents it in a way that is memorable and exciting. It only took me a few hours to read and then I passed it onto my 3rd grader to enjoy!

Creative Team Call

We are putting together a team of creative and resourceful people who also like to get free stuff!

The members of our creative team will receive free digital products from our shop twice a month. They will then print, cut, and use the free products and blog/facebook/pin the results. They get to keep and use all the digital products they receive, and also get 50% off any purchases for all additional downloadable products that they want!

Here are the requirements:

• You must have a blog with a moderate-good following. You will be required to post about the free products you receive from us on your blog twice a month. You will also be required to put one of our buttons in your sidebar (we'll probably have a cool "I am on the Green Jello with Carrots Creative Team" one for you to use...once we make it).

Christmas Deals FINAL DAY: Weesmart Learning Fun!

One of our favorite sections of the shop is our WeeSmart learning games and worksheets! Alphabet, numbers, shapes, etc - it's all LOT'S OF FUN! Or at least it should be. Make early learning a great time at your house by having cute printables to teach basic concepts!

THIRD: Check it out - I've used our new products to make cool stuff for my kids!

First, I printed all the Alphabet Coloring Pages and the Alphabet Practice Pages and grabbed a couple little folders for my 3 and 4 year olds. I put a label on one pocket that says "to do" and another on opposite pocket that says "done". Then I put all the new pages in the "to do" pocket and filled the inside section with extra doodle paper. (We're a doodle-y family, we always need extra doodle paper.)

So now both of the kids will have their own alphabet worksheets AND a place to keep them organized. Generally we skip the organization part and the next thing I know I have coloring pages floating all over the place. OR, they want to hang every single one of them on the fridge, so we end up with about 75 pages precariously dangling from the door and we can't even open it without having half of them fall off. So yeah, FOLDERS = GREAT IDEA.

And I also printed out the Vegetable Puzzles, because I really like how they turned out.

Except that I was out of cardstock, so I printed them on resume paper. FYI - resume paper isn't really any thicker than regular paper. So then I made my husband cover them in clear contact paper for me, and that kind of helped. Of course, they're still lots of fun for the kids, but it would be better if they were a bit stiffer and less floppy-rific (flop-tastic? anti-stiff-ific?)

Then, you'll want to cut out the pieces on the lines. Except, AND THIS IS IMPORTANT, don't mix up your pieces. Because there are a gabillion of them, and you don't want to confuse who's feet are whose and stuff like that. This is how I kept mine organized:

Then, take a big fat needle and poke through all the x's on each piece, like this:

This will make it SO MUCH EASIER to put your brads in. Trust me on this, I have experience. Once your x's have been prepped, you'll want to line up your pieces and push a brad through the holes on both layers.

And then, you just repeat the process for each character.

I suggest poking holes and inserting brads a character at a time - you know, that whole organization/confusing feet thing. I also suggest using some kind of mini-brad. The big gold ones are way too clunky and huge-ish.

Once you have your characters complete, you can play! The brads allow for movement, which is super fun.

If you're like a lot of families in the US, you like to gather everyone for a big Thanksgiving dinner, and then once everyone has been sufficiently stuffed, the whole family heads to the movies!

But it's really hard to figure out which movie to see, right? Because it needs to be something the kids can watch, but the adults want to be entertained too. But this year, the choice is EASY, you should watch The Muppets.

Last week I got to take my kids to see a special screening of The Muppets movie and IT WAS AWESOME.

Through the whole movie the kids were laughing, and I was laughing, and we only had to leave the theater for ONE potty break. Overall, I would consider it an excellent experience. But my very favorite part about the whole movie was that it was filled with good clean humor.

Basically, the movie is about a couple of brothers who have to convince Kermit to convince the rest of the gang to get back together to put on a big show to save their studio. Except that they keep getting told that people don't want to watch outdated shows like The Muppets anymore because society only likes violence and vulgarity. But in the end the Muppets prove that they weren't so out of date after all, and that people still appreciate singing chickens and Animal's drumming, and a banjo playing frog that sings about rainbows.

Which I think is an excellent message.

The Muppets movie proves that a show doesn't have to be filled with violence and vulgarity to be entertaining - clean humor isn't antiquated and unwanted, it's just rare.

So, if you're taking your family to see a movie after you're done with the turkey and pie, go see The Muppets - you're going to love it!

Zions Mercantile and Robert Boyd

A few weeks ago I spent an amazing day at Shops at the Riverwoods in Provo with some of my blogging friends. And one of my favorite stores that we visited was Zions Mercantile which is an amazing LDS bookstore and church history gift shop.

The owner of Zions Mercantile told us stories about her experiences running the same shop in Nauvoo Illinois. She also told us stories behind some of the merchandise and displays in her store (I almost felt like I was in a museum - except that I could look and touch and BUY STUFF!)

The whole store was amazing. Really. (Especially if you like church history and/or heritage decor and gifts.)

But my favorite part about spending time at Zions Mercantile was meeting Robert Boyd. Robert is the amazing artist behind all of those wonderful temple photograph/paintings. You know the ones I'm talking about? The ones that look like the temples are literally glowing? (My favorite is his popular Salt Lake Temple detail with red leaves - do you know what photograph/paintings I'm talking about now? Yeah, HIM.)

Robert told us the story behind his amazing artwork, about how he wanted to capture the feeling of the temple; and portray not only the image of a building but the spirit of peace and comfort that surrounds every temple. It was very inspiring. And Robert is just a really nice and extremely humble guy.

He's the one on the right (obviously) with the shop owner in the middle.

Basically, the whole thing was a touching, awesome, inspiring and spiritual moment. Which obviously wears off quickly with me, because I really just couldn't help photo bombing other people's pictures:

Do you see me back there?! Photo bombing is not touching, inspiring or spiritual. But it is REEEEEEEALLY HILARIOUS.

Oh man, I'm funny! And also, yes, I am a mood ruiner. But you should check out Zions Mercantile and Robert Boyd anyway. Because they're pretty awesome and they'll probably never photo bomb any of your pictures (no promises from me though).

I've been slacking a little on the awesome stuff so this week is extra SUPER awesome.

First of all, have you heard this cd yet? Probably not because it's BRAND NEW. And I'm really excited about it because I've noticed a big response from my kids according to what music we play and it's hard finding something this peaceful.

All Through the Night is comprised of different lullabies played on the flute and harp. I wanted to tell you my favorite song, but I couldn't decide between "Goodnight My Someone" and "Stay Awake". On their website you can buy the CD or download individual MP3 tracks. You can also hear a sample of the music just in case you don't really believe me on it's awesomenicity (although I don't know why you'd ever doubt me).

This blog is funny. Well, it's funny if you HAVE kids. Or HAVE HAD kids. Or just LIKE kids even if you don't have any. And you can enter your own funny kid picture. And sometime win contests.

something good to watch

Like most of you, watching General Conference from my couch is basically my weekend agenda. But once conference is over, there's something else I think you all should watch. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on ABC (Sunday 8/7c).

Seriously.

Because I know for a fact that it's a good one. I know this because we got special permission to watch the show before it airs on Sunday. (I'm feeling really special and important about it, actually. "Watching special episodes of tv before the general public see it" is first on my list to world domination.)

Sunday's episode of EM:HE is about a 7 year old boy named Jonah Gomez and his family.

Jonah has two unique blood disorders - the only known child in the world with this condition. He has to have frequent blood transfusions and daily oxygen just to survive until they can find a bone marrow donor that is a match. And did you know that it's extremely difficult to find bone marrow matches? (I didn't realize that before watching the show.)

I don't want to give the whole show away, so here's just some of my favorite parts:

• Jonah loves soccer and waterfalls and gets both in his new house.

• They live in Utah (kind of, sort of, not that far away from me, actually...not that we shop at the same grocery store or anything, but we briefly considered moving to the neighborhood where their new house was built, so basically you could almost say we're best friends with the Gomez family).

• Everyone on EM:HE team up with A Better Community and Real Salt Lake (and a bunch of other soccer teams) to convince TONS and TONS and TONS of people to test for bone marrow matches. And it was so amazing that I almost cried, even though I have a heart of ice (this is a big deal, I assure you).

• There is a slide strategically placed in the house they build, and I'm not going to tell you where, or how, or anything other than I'm supremely excessively jealous of said slide.

• Jonah and his mom and sister are really happy upbeat people. Even before the new house. Which amazes me, because at our house, someone gets a hangnail and world almost ends, so I can't even imagine my 7 year old having 65 blood transfusions and being hospitalized over 20 times and still being happy people. (Possibly that's something we should work on? First step- taking lessons from the Gomez family.)

• Ty Pennington promised to come and build me a house if you all watch the show. Really. Ok, FINE, not really. I don't think we'll ever be on that show, mostly because of that hangnail-world-ending attitude I mentioned, and also because all we have are hangnails and not horrible disorders that could kill us (THANKFULLY), but mostly because I don't do that screaming/jumping thing when I get excited. And my monotone exclamations of "whooo, yay, this is great," don't make for good tv, no matter how heartfelt my "whooo's" are. (It's ok, Ty, you can just come over and bring me popcorn or brownies or something instead.)

So anyways, you really should watch Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on Sunday evening (8/7c). Or tivo it. Or even record it on your VCR if that's what you like to do. Because it really really REALLY is a good one, I promise. Except make sure you have tissues handy for that amazingly touching part I told you about. And also, you're going to want the web address for A Better Community after it's over so that you can find out how to become a bone marrow donor too.

So, I don't know if you've noticed; our homepage has been hacked. The rest of the pages on our site are ok, so you can still get to the shop, but the homepage? Yeah, it's all hackery.

It took me over an hour to figure out a way to access our backend again because the jerkface hacker changed the password.

And then I spent another 2 hours combing through code and server stuff trying to figure out what was going on.

It turns out I'm just not geek enough to figure this out. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW TO FIX IT.

So, until I can get a hold of the tech support people (who should have more convenient work hours, for crying out loud) just steer clear of our homepage. Just go straight to the shop, ok?

We've been getting updates on Slater's condition (Melanie is facebook friends with Slater's mom) and it's been slow and painful, but things are possibly looking better. Slater is awake now and but he has been having major "neuro storms" which I guess is like having all of your senses go into overload all at the same time. (Sometimes when I'm stressed out I kind of feel like my senses are going crazy so I can't even imagine how horrible it would be to have an actual "storm" going on. Especially for a 5 year old boy who isn't even old enough to understand everything that's happening to him.)

But in the midst of everything Slater's mom had something positive to say:
"I am sorry this update comes a day late. I was visiting Heaven yesterday. Oh, I've been there before but never really appreciated it like I do now. Heaven was being able to watch Slater hold up two fingers for the doctors. Heaven was holding him in my arms and caressing his little broken head. Heaven was watching the tube being pulled from his throat a day early. Heaven was hearing my child, with his raspy voice call me MOM. Heaven is wherever my children are. There was a time I wished Heaven away. The times I mopped the kitchen floor for the upteenth time because of someones sticky popcicle drool, or sat down on a toilet seat after one of my boys have used it.....hearing them chuckle as I yell at them to wipe the seat off next time, or tripping over their shoes laying next to the shoe basket. Why are those Heaven moments for me? Because it would mean Slater was home. It would mean my kids are all under one roof. I would gladly mop the floor again right now if it meant Slater was home sneaking another popcicle. All that hard work means something to me now. It means my kids are home and safe around me. So, now I look for Heaven everywhere. And recognize when I am smack dab in the middle of it..praising God that he allowed me to feel a little bit of Heaven.."

So what we ask of you now is to please PLEASE help us raise more money for Slater's medical bills. We've had a lot of people order this week, but it's just not enough! Money is the last thing that family needs to worry about right now - they have much more important things to occupy their thoughts.

Love for Slater Fundraiser

Sometimes life is hard, like when you have to move to a new state, and you can't find a rental, and you have to parent your children all by yourself while you're husband is working his new job, and you aren't getting much sleep because you think about ghosts in your house.

But then something happens, and you realize that maybe while life isn't easy, it could be a whole lot worse.

On June 10th a 5 1/2 year old boy named Slater Holt (the cute boy in that picture) fell from his two-story bedroom window to the concrete below. He suffered severe trauma to his head and was life-flighted to Primary Children's Hospital. He is currently on life support in ICU in a drug induced coma. Doctors anticipate he will stay in ICU for weeks then months for rehabilitation. He very possibly will end up with constant breathing assistance and a wheelchair.

Yeah, that's a whole lot worse.

For the week of June 20-25th we'll be donating to the Love for Slater fundraiser.

During the week we will give 100% of our proceeds to Love for Slater. And we'll still be running our 15% sale so you can buy EVEN MORE STUFF, and we can donate the proceeds to help pay for Slater's medical bills.

the food storage sore spot

I have this big sore spot. And sometimes when I'm in church or reading scriptures or even watching the news, my sore spot gets nudged and bumped and sometimes, on occasion, totally flattened. And then I have to limp along until I can manage to ignore it again.

My sore spot? FOOD STORAGE. And our major lack there of.

If there were a natural disaster right now, I could probably feed my family for about 4 days. (And that's after a big shopping trip to the grocery store.) This. worries. me. Very much.

Through the church we've been told to get our food storage in order for years and years and years. And even though I'm fairly certain the world isn't going to end tomorrow, it's still abundantly clear that we're living in a time when food storage and overall preparedness are a good idea.

Except how does one stock up on food when money is tight? Budgets are small these days - for pretty much everyone.

Plus there's also the dilemma of "what can I buy that has a long shelf life and still tastes like actual food?" Because I know there's a lot of food storage items out there that I would really have to be starving to even think about putting in my mouth (not to mention my very picky children's mouths).

You can see why it's a sore spot, right? I mean, what's a girl to do?

Sometimes life is like, "Yo, here's a curveball.....catch!"

Basically, my family is moving. Unexpectedly. In a couple of weeks.

Which means we'll be needing to pay a deposit on the new place, plus first & last month rent, plus the cost of a moving truck, plus the wishful thinking that all of this is a really just a vivid dream that I'll wake from any second. (If I could also wake up skinny, and with good hair, that would also be great.)

lemons and clothing

So when life hands you lemons, what do you do?

Belleza Mia has fantastic necklaces, earrings and other pieces of jewelry. All pieces of jewelry are made by hand, can be customized and in a lot of cases are hand stamped to perfection. They even have a selection of over 30 gemstones that you can choose from so you get exactly what you're looking for.

The necklace we'll be giving away has the words "there is joy in the journey" handstamped on an antique brass disc. The disc is 19mm and hangs on a 18" antique brass chain with lobster claw clasp. Accompanying the disc are a wire wrapped glass flower and a dainty freshwater pearl. (In short - it's amazing.)

The Casual Blogger Community is getting a DIRECTORY of awesome blogs. Which is cool, you know, if you like reading awesome blogs.

I think this book looks cool. Probably because I'm really horrible at kitchen stuff. And also I need the easy to make recipes and ideas. And also because this author has a ridiculously cool blog that has even more awesome recipes and ideas. And I like it.

These girls are adorable. The girl on the right - I LOVE HER HAIR (seriously dying of cuteness overload here). Plus it's spring here and there's "popcorn" on our trees outside. So this video is awesome.
